About
Who we are.
Halfsquare is a small developer workshop in Berlin. We work between two worlds.
On one side, the local businesses and Mittelstand companies that should be getting digital tools but don't get the service that comes with them. A hair salon that needs a modern booking system. A practice whose phone rings between appointments. A mid-sized company whose Sage or NAV setup can't produce XRechnung yet. Those are the topics on our Services page, and they are the majority of our work.
On the other side, projects with deeper technical demands. Between Halfsquare jobs, Steven builds DeFi infrastructure in Rust and custom AI architecture for a German law firm. We don't think that matters for your salon. But it is the reason our Sage-to-XRechnung adapter works cleanly, why our AI phone integration doesn't break after three weeks, and why we can handle regulated industries.

Full-stack & Backend
Full-stack developer. Started in e-commerce building online shops, then fintech, now backend-focused with a Rust and TypeScript stack. Between Halfsquare projects, he builds DeFi infrastructure and custom AI architecture for a German law firm. In the workshop, he handles architecture, backend integrations, and technically demanding projects.

How we work
Four steps, every time.

Understand
A focused hour on the phone or over coffee in Berlin. We listen to what you are actually trying to do and tell you honestly whether we are the right people. Both cost nothing.

Design
From the conversation we design the smallest solution that actually solves your problem. You receive a clear quote by email. Fixed price, clear delivery date.

Build
We build in stages of two to three weeks. Everything tested, with documentation a successor can read. The code and the accounts belong to you. If you ever decide you do not need us anymore, you keep everything and can carry on.

Hand over
On handover day you get a short training session, the finished documentation and four weeks of free support. What happens after that is your call: monthly care from us, or you continue on your own.

We size the work before the project, not during it. You know what you get and what it costs before we start.
We say honestly when we are not the right fit.
Some projects are too big, some too small, some need a different specialty. In that case we recommend someone else.
